Etana Rocks NYC
As I posted earlier, my 14-year-old kid sister Etana has recently taken to singing/songwriting and has produced some great songs. She and my father came for a visit for the weekend and she brought her guitar to try to do some street performing. We decided to hit Central Park Friday and Saturday and she kicked some serious butt! She set up just outside Strawberry Fields by the Dekota, at Bethesda Fountain, along the Poet's Walk, and on Bow Bridge over The Lake. On top of impressing tons of tourists, she made herself about $40 and sold a few CD's!
Take a listen to some of her music here!
Anyhow, I'm a proud brother...here are some photos, including a few portraits in Times Square:

Hey, she's a pro now...counting the cash. :)

American Idol's Katherine McPhee
Last week the LA Times hired me to take some portraits of Katherine McPhee, a former American Idol contestant who's now gone into acting on top of singing/songwriting. I was given 15 minutes with her in her dressing prior to her appearance on Live with Regis and Kelly to promote her new movie "The House Bunny.". Typically when I shoot celebrities, I'm given anywhere from 5-15 minutes to make a pretty picture....and this was no different. Fortunately, though, Katherine is still young and new to the world of celebrity, so the session was pretty laid back and fun.
Check out the LA Times Article here.
Here are a few pics from the shoot:

This was my personal favorite from the shoot.

The shot the LA Times chose online

We did a couple white wall shots.

I liked the monochromatic feel of her dress against the wall.

I have this effect on women... :)

How it ran in print.

Check out Marko's blog!
While I'm waiting for my most recent pictures to get published so I can post them here, I thought I share my friend's new blog.
-----
My buddy Marko is (finally) starting to update his blog from Iraq. He's on a 3 month rotation in Bagdad for the New York Times. Kudos to those who go to dangerous places to to tell important stories to the world.
Anyhow, he's got some interesting things to say, and some nice pics too.
Click here to check him out.

Cool New Client - Tiki Recreation
I've started working with a cool new client, Tiki Recreation, a playground equipment company that partnered up with former New York Giants football star Tiki Barber. Always fun to wake up in the AM and hit the playground with a football star and a bunch of kids for a catered shoot. Yummmmm, muffins!
Tiki is a really cool, down-to-earth kind of guy. I got to hang out with him and his twin brother, Ronde (also a NFL player), while on assignment a year ago when they were promoting their new children's book. They dabble in everything.
Some pix:

Tiki plays on it, so should you.

Alec Baldwin Makes a House-Call
I got a call from the LA TImes asking me to shoot a portrait of Alec Baldwin a few weeks back for the cover of their "Envelope" special section....a section about the Emmys. Alec got nominated. Anyhow, they wanted to shoot somewhere private and asked If I had a studio, which I dont, but I suggested my backyard and the deal was set; Alec Baldwin coming over to my apartment for a photoshoot! Wild!
Turned out he canceled the shoot when he got here because he was too hot. So we did a reshoot a few days later in the Hamptons.
*****READ THE LA TIMES ARTICLE....it talks about his sweaty experience at my apartment at the beginning, middle, and end!!!

This is completely non photo related....but please listen to my sister Etana's music.

She will hopefully be playing some shows in NYC at the end of August.
She's worth a listen! I promise.

Sail Away, Sail Away, Sail Away
I had an assignment to shoot on Ellis Island today, so I made the trek downtown and to the ferry. It was such a beautiful day and being out on the water is always nice. It made me remember some of my other trips sailing along the hudson.
Here are a few pix:

Good times.

Some More MLB Fun
I was going back through some of my pictures from the last month...I had a good time, got to meet a lot of fun people, and do a lot of fun things while working All-Star Week for MLB. Here are a few photo highlights:

Riding the elevator to the top of the Empire State Building with Yogi Berra!

It was actually his first time...surprises me.

Breakfast at Tiffany's

Tiffany and Co. makes all the awards for the World Series and All-Star Games

Oh, and this is what I did instead of going to Bon Jovi in the park

Billy Crystal at the Celebrity Softball game at Yankee Stadium

Bobby Fley...I like Food TV. Anything to do with food for that matter...

Chris Rock

Dave Winfield thinks I'm funny.

Chris after an inning.

Make Woopie.

Everyone Loves Chris

Peter and Lucas on field shooting

Rich and Dave rest while I work diligently.

I even wore a gown...
Thought this would be fun to share. I shot a bunch of PR work for Major League Baseball a few weeks back the week leading up to the All-Star Game. One of the perks was to attend and just take some pictures during the All-Star Gala being held at the Museum of Natural History two blocks from my apartment. Free food, booze, and music at the museum under the Blue Whale = Fun.

The party under the life-size replica of a Blue Whale.

Dinosaurs...

Former Yankee Bernie Williams performed...and he was good!
